Post Surgery
Most patients normally return to work with two days. Medication can be taken as prescribed by your doctor if you experience some discomfort/pain as a result of your operation. Most patients experience little or no pain, and any discomfort lasts only a fraction of a second. While the amount of post treatment pain varies from one patient to another, most require only Tylenol or ibuprofen for any discomfort. Complete recovery, including resolution of bruising, takes from 4-6 weeks.
Here are a few tips to help you lessen the pain or discomfort and/or to prevent a blood clot forming in your leg from inactivity.
- Support elastic bandages must be worn when walking and removed when sitting or resting in bed.
- Starting from the day following your operation until your appointment with your Doctor.
- Do no stand still. Either walk or mark time (stepping on the spot).
- Ensure you walk approximately 1 kilometer per day.
- When sitting elevate your legs.
- When in bed, ensure bedclothes are not resting on legs and feet.
- Elevate foot of the bed that is put 2 pillows under the mattress not under your legs.
- You will be unable to shower or bath until your appointment with the Doctor, therefore you will have to wash yourself as best as possible.
